Finding Your Way Back from the Abyss

Posted by Jeannie Bauer in Life Skills
So you've had a bump along the road of life... Something has gone seriously wrong, and you're wondering how you'll ever get things back on track. Maybe it's your marriage, your career, or your financial situation. It almost doesn't matter how you got to the point where you're at today -- what matters is what you'll do tomorrow and each day thereafter to correct your course and find your footing again. As the first steps in your recovery process, there will come a time for you to establish optimistic new goals for the future based on today's reality, and to create workable plans to accomplish these goals.

I recently read a worthwhile article on a process for setting credible and workable goals, entitled "Knowing Where You Want to Be." This article was posted in the Personal Development Ideas blog by Gleb Reys. I thought that the following quote was especially relevant for Bouncing Back readers:

"It's about knowing where you want to be in not so distant future. It's about being absolutely conscious that no matter how good or bad the current situation looks, it's probably not the end of your journey."

This quote highlights a major theme I have intended to convey repeatedly throughout Bouncing Back:

There will be a tomorrow! There will be a day when your current situation is behind you, and better days will have reappeared in your life.

So, for today, pick yourself up and re-write your goals and objectives for the future. By putting exciting new goals into writing and embellishing them with detailed implementation plans, you will begin setting your thought process towards a happier, more successful future, and your actions will follow your thoughts to create that new future.
